Thornden Community Badminton Club is based at Thornden School in Chandlers Ford, Hampshire. We welcome all kids age 8+.

How it works

Beginners (year 7 and above) and new players start on Wednesday nights.  As players improve their skills and techniques, they are invited into one of the more challenging groups held on Mondays. We are also offering a session on Fridays from 4.30 to 5.30 pm aimed at introducing Year 5 and 6 players to badminton.

The membership year runs from September to mid May (approximately 23-27 sessions.) This membership fee covers the cost of hall rental, professional coaching fees, shuttles, other equipment (including racquets), and Badminton England affiliation fees (including insurance cover). Fees are non refundable. If you join half-way through the year, membership fees are reduced on a pro-rata basis.

Badminton sessions

Mondays 5:00-6.30 pm Silver group
Mondays 6.30-8.00 pm Gold group
Wednesdays 5.30-7.00 pm Bronze group
Fridays 4:30-5.30 pm Primary group

During term times only.

The role of parent helpers

Each session must be supervised by two adults.  Our coaches are DBS checked and will run the coaching session but we look to the parents of our players, if they can, to come and sit in on their child’s session occasionally, on a rota basis.  We greatly appreciate the time our parent helpers give up to help us fulfill this requirement, and in fact, the club would not exist if it were not for the parent helpers.  To show our appreciation, every time you volunteer, you will be given a golden ticket in a draw.  At the end of the year, we will award a prize to the winner in the draw.  The more times you volunteer, the more chances to win.  So, please sign up using the parents’ rota and know that you are doing something vital for the survival of the club.

Fees for Monday and Wednesday sessions

£80 (September to Mid-May)

Fees for Friday Sessions

£40 (September to December – 12 sessions)

£43 (January to May – 13 sessions)

10% discount for each additional sibling for all sessions.  If you join half-way through the year, membership fees are reduced on a pro-rata basis.
