The TCBC Juniors Division is based at Thornden School in Chandlers Ford, Hampshire. We welcome all kids age 8+, from all schools and all levels.
How it works
Beginners and new players start on Wednesday nights or Friday nights. As players improve their skills and techniques, they are invited into one of the more challenging groups held on Mondays. Although this isn’t a rule, it seems to turn out that Wednesday nights is for year 7 and up. Fridays sessions from 4.30 to 5.30 pm are aimed at introducing Year 5 and 6 players to badminton.
The membership year runs from September to mid-May (approximately 23-27 sessions.) This membership fee covers the cost of hall rental, professional coaching fees, shuttles, other equipment (including racquets), and Badminton England affiliation fees (including insurance cover). Fees are non refundable. If you join half-way through the year, membership fees are reduced on a pro-rata basis.

The role of parent helpers
Each session must be supervised by two adults. Our coaches are DBS checked and will run the coaching session but we look to the parents of our players, if they can, to sit in on a session occasionally, on a rota basis. The parent helper’s duties are light: you read an information sheet about what to do in case of an emergency, then, typically, you watch, read a book, or get caught up in paperwork. Going back over the years, we’ve had no emergencies, and the parent enjoys some ‘me’ time.
In the past we have tried many different ways to entice/bribe/reward parents to sit in on the occasional session. We have found the best way to guarantee participation is by offering reduced membership fees to those parents who help out. If you can’t make your own child’s session, you are welcome to sign up for any of the other sessions. Please sign up using the parents’ rota if you can help out.
Fees for Monday and Wednesday Sessions
£65 – Parents who sign up to the Parent’s Rota at least 3 sessions in the year.
Fees for Friday Sessions
£40 (September to December)
£40 (January to May)
(No Parent Helper discount because enough Parents stay during the sessions.)
10% discount for each additional sibling for all sessions.
If you join half-way through the year, membership fees are reduced on a pro-rata basis.
