TCBC Juniors

The TCBC Juniors Division is based at Thornden School in Chandlers Ford, Hampshire. We welcome all kids age 8+, from all schools and all levels.

How it works

Beginners and new players start on Wednesday nights or Friday nights.  The season runs from September to mid-May. As players improve their skills and techniques, they are invited into one of the more challenging groups held on Mondays. Although this isn’t a rule, it seems to turn out that Wednesday nights are for year 7 and up.  Fridays sessions are aimed at introducing Year 5 and 6 players to badminton.

Fees

Fees work out to £5 a class, paid (roughly) 6 weeks at a time, at the beginning of each half term. Membership fees are reduced on a pro-rata basis if you sign up partway during the half term.

Membership fees cover the cost of hall rental, professional coaching fees, shuttles, other equipment (including racquets), and Badminton England affiliation fees (including insurance cover). Fees are non-refundable.

10% discount for each additional sibling.

The role of parent helpers – Sit in a class and get £5 credit each class

Each session must be covered by two adults.  Our coaches are DBS checked and will run the coaching session but we look to the parents of our players, if they can, to sit in on a session occasionally, on a rota basis.  The parent helper’s duties are light: you read an information sheet about what to do in case of an emergency, then, typically, you watch, read a book, or get caught up in paperwork.  Going back over the years, we’ve had no emergencies, and the parent enjoys some ‘me’ time.

The good news is we give you £5 or a £5 credit towards your next session for every class you volunteer for. If you can’t make your own child’s session, you are welcome to sign up for any of the other sessions.  Please sign up using the parents’ rota if you can help out.

How to join

Membership is allocated on a first come, first served basis to beginners in the Bronze and Primary sessions. The other sessions are by invitation or trial.  If you want to try us out before joining, call Peter at 07986 05319. To register as a member, complete a membership form by clicking here.

Payment for fees can be made by cheque or direct bank transfer. Bank transfer information is given on the registration form.  If possible a bank transfer would be preferred as this significantly reduces the administration time involved.  If you join halfway through the term, membership fees are reduced on a pro-rata basis.
