Fee Adjustments Explained for May-July Session 2021

As we’ve mentioned in a few emails to all members, we have had to increase the rates this year because , due to COVID, we had to limit the number of players per class. So to make things as easy as possible and to cover our coaching costs, we’ve set the fee at £5 per class. (In pre-COVID times, it usually runs at about £4 a class, depending on the session.)

Because we had to curtail our 2019-2020 year in March, (due to COVID), we owed those members registered for that year a refund of about £10. This is why we are offering renewing members a discount. For these members, we had reduced the fees in September/October 2020 by £5, and were planning to reduce the next set of sessions for renewing members by £5, except, the next set of sessions didn’t happen.

To make things slightly more complicated, the Nov/Dec sessions started but didn’t finish and started only for Monday and Wednesday sessions, but, by the Friday sessions, the school had cancelled all external hirers.

Some of you have paid for the Nov/Dec sessions and some of you haven’t.

In sorting this out, there are some guiding principles:

  • Each class is £5.
  • Members who were affected by last year’s (2019-2020) curtailment are given a £5 discount.
  • Siblings – Renewing sibling is given £5 discount. (New sibling may not.) Most expensive sibling is given a 10% discount.
  • If you paid any amount in October 2020, it will be used as a credit towards the cost of May-July 2021 sessions.

So, some examples,

A Silver member played one day of the previous session (Nov 2) and can play 6 days of the next session (May 24, June 7, 14, 21, July 12, 19) for a total of 7 classes. 7 classes at £5 equals £35. If it is a renewing member, then we subtract £5, to equal £30. If the member paid £17.30 in October 2020, then they still owe £30 minus 17.30, equals £12.70.

A new Primary member will be charged £5 per class, and, as there are 4 classes being offered between May and July, £5 X 4 equals £20.

Two siblings in Gold played one day of the previous session (Nov/Dec) and can play 6 days of the next session (May 24, June 7, 14, 21, July 12, 19) for a total of 7 classes each. Their fees are figured out separately. 7 classes at £5 equals £35. If it is a renewing member, then we subtract £5, to equal £30. There is a 10 percent discount for the second sibling, so the fees would be £30 plus £27, minus whatever was paid in October 2020.

Paying Fees

Each of the members/parents will receive an individual email outlining the upcoming fees. If you wish to discuss them, (our math isn’t infallible) please send me an email (info@thorndenbadminton.org.uk) or call 02380 267717.

As always, you are welcome to pay in installments.

If you do not wish to renew, please let me know and we can arrange a refund if you had paid for the Nov/Dec sessions in October 2020.

On a brighter note, it looks like we may be able to return to our normal mode of working in September, and if that is the case, then we would be in the position of offering lower fees.
